Speaker Biographies
Jessica Jackley
Jessica Jackley is Founder and CEO of ProFounder, a platform providing new ways for small business entrepreneurs in the U.S. to access start-up capital through crowdfunding and community involvement. Prior to ProFounder, Jessica was a Founder, Chief Marketing Officer, and Director of Kiva, the world’s first p2p microlending website. Kiva lets users lend as little as $25 to poor entrepreneurs around the world, providing affordable capital for them to start or expand microenterprises. Since its founding in October 2005, Kiva has facilitated over $300mM in loans across 205 countries.
Jessica has also worked with the Stanford Center for Social Innovation, Amazon.com, Potentia Media, the International Foundation, World Vision, and others. Jessica is an active advisor and board member on a number of organizations championing microfinance, women's issues, tech, and the arts. Jessica holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business with Certificates in Global Management and Public Management, and a BA in Philosophy and Political Science from Bucknell University. Kathy Chou
Kathy Chou is VP of Sales Strategy and Operations for Personal Systems Group (PSG) Americas, where she is responsible for driving sales strategy to reach HP’s aggressive growth goals. She manages HP’s Americas Global Business support, volume sales in Latin America, growing OEM business, sales analytics and operations. Prior to this, Chou was VP of PSG Worldwide Commercial Sales, where she focused on growing HP’s worldwide commercial business through direct and indirect channels. Chou has 20-plus years of operations and management experience in high-tech industry.
Chou holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in manufacturing systems engineering from Stanford University, and a master’s of business administration from the Harvard Graduate School of Business. In 2006, Chou was awarded the prestigious Governors Award by the Stanford Associates alumni organization for her exemplary volunteer service to the university. Sakina Arsiwala
Sakina Arsiwala is the co-founder of Campfire Labs (now Groupon) and previously led the international charter at youtube, Google's international Search Quality and User experience amongst other things. She has a masters in computer science with a focus on IR (Information retrieval) and started her career with an internship at Altavista and then Yahoo. She is originally from Mumbai, loves traveling, and is always up for an adventure.
_Almudena Bernabeu
Almudena Bernabeu is an attorney from Spain who has been working in the fields of human rights and private international law for the past decade. As an International Attorney at the Center for Justice and Accountability (CJA) in San Francisco, Almudena focuses primarily on the investigation and preparation of Latin American cases. Almudena is also a prosecutor in Spain in the criminal case against former Guatemalan officials responsible for atrocities committed against civilians during the 1970s and 1980s. She has a particular interest in the work of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture. She is a graduate of the Faculty of International Law, Universidad de Valencia, Spain.
Lisa Maulhardt
Lisa Maulhardt leads the consulting practice in the San Francisco office of SYPartners, a leadership and transformation firm that helps companies design their futures. She joined the company in 1994 as a writer, prior to which she worked at Apple and at Oracle Corporation. Her clients have included Apple, Disney, Gap, Herman Miller, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Oakley, Old Navy, PBS, Sundance, and Yahoo!. Lisa holds a BA in English and Poetry from Stanford University, and an MA in English and Fiction Writing from the University of California at Davis.
Dr. Wanjiru Kamau-Rutenberg
Dr Kamau-Rutenberg is the founder and executive director of Akili Dada, an international non-profit organization working to ensure that the next generation of Kenyan women leaders includes women from disadvantaged economic backgrounds. Akili Dada offers competitive and comprehensive scholarships to brilliant girls from impoverished Kenyan families while connecting them to a network of high level professional women who serve as mentors. Wanjiru is also an Assistant Professor in the Politics department at the University of San Francisco, where her research and teaching interests center on the politics of philanthropy, gender, Africa, ethnicity, and democratization, and on the role of technology in social activism. Originally from Kenya, she earned a B.A. in Politics from Whitman College and Masters and Ph.D. degrees in Political Science with concentrations in African Studies and Gender Studies from the University of Minnesota. In her dual roles, Wanjiru divides her time between the U.S. and Kenya, where Akili Dada is based. Working at the intersection of academia and social entrepreneurship, Wanjiru is passionate about the synergy between rigorous academic analysis and committed social activism.
Amy S. Park
Amy S. Park is a partner in the Palo Alto office of law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. She is active in a variety of initiatives that empower women lawyers to reach the highest levels of success. She founded Skadden’s Bay Area Women’s Initiative, which provides career development and networking opportunities for the firm’s Palo Alto-based women attorneys. She also helps lead a similar firm- wide program, the Skadden Women’s Initiative, which fosters leadership skills and career development opportunities for the firm’s women attorneys. In addition, she is a National Advisory Board member of the Women In Law Empowerment Forum, a national non-profit focused on promoting leadership opportunities for women in law firms. Ms. Park is a member of Skadden’s Diversity Committee, serves on the firm’s Palo Alto Hiring Committee, and is the partner in charge of attorney development for Skadden’s Palo Alto office.
Ms. Park has a broad litigation practice focused on high-stakes, commercial disputes in federal and state courts, including complex contract disputes, M&A litigation, securities class action defense, shareholder derivative suits, and corporate governance disputes. Ms. Park’s clients have included: Adobe Systems Inc.; Impax Laboratories; ConAgra Grocery Products; Visa Inc.; NGAS; ZiLOG, Inc.; Pulmuone U.S.A., Inc.; and EMC Corporation. |
